Creating a seamless digital presence validating brand reputation

Living North is the North’s foremost independent magazine publisher and event management company. Covering home and gardens, food and drink, life and style and things to do, Living North produces the leading lifestyle magazines for the North East and Yorkshire, as well as supplements alongside the main magazine every month.

The only read you ever need

JUMP was commissioned to design and develop a new website for Living North to support and add value to their printed offering, but not replace it. The key to the project was to enhance their content and improve the user flow while providing a stylish, fresh and user-friendly design.

Adding value to the printed offering

As with any new project, understanding the audience is key. Living North has a very diverse demographic with the magazine readership at age 30 and above and website readership at aged 25-40. It was hugely important to cater the design to these audiences and understand how they might interact with the site. These audiences may want to be inspired, entertained or shown content so understanding their motivations was key.

The diverse demographic also meant that effective and efficient search and navigation were significant. By putting content first, this resulted in a flexible site with clear navigation and improved flow. JUMP also introduced Living North’s brand font to link their digital offering to the printed magazine and give it an editorial feel. The team also introduced seasonal colours to keep the site fresh and updated alongside the ever-changing articles which resulted in better visual appeal on all devices.

    Round-the-clock advertisement

One of the key features in the Living North website is the round-the-clock advertisement system, giving advertisers a unique opportunity to position themselves within the engaging magazine content. To ensure that the advertisement system enhances user experience and allows businesses to reach their target audience, a bespoke solution was built allowing Living North to manage and schedule continual adverts across various content categories, covering different subjects. This in return allows companies to be discovered in content related to their business which enables them to reach their potential clientele.

    Swift and progressive

As with all websites, JUMP built a bespoke website from scratch. Living North being a magazine publisher, it was crucial to ensure the content was accommodated for. To create the best possible user experience, the JUMP development team focused on implementing the image-heavy design by rendering media content in next generation formats and therefore keeping the site fast and high-performing. This ensures the optimised website loads quickly and keeps the end-user engaged.

Furthermore, to guarantee continual interaction between the user and the content, a fast user-friendly site search functionality was implemented allowing users to quickly and effectively navigate the site.
